هست را با نیست زیستن،
کردار را بی‌کردار کردن،
و بی رنگی را مزمزه نمودن.

کوچک را در بزرگ دیدن،
بزرگ را در کوچک دیدن،
اندک را در بسیار دیدن،
و کینه را باآیینه‌ی مهربانی نگریستن.

آسان‌ را دشوار شمردن،
و دشوار را زاده‌ی آسان‌ دیدن.
سختی‌ را آسان‌ شمردن،
و آسان را زاده‌ی دشوار دیدن.

پس دانا از کوچکی به بزرگی می‌رسد،
او هرگز خود را بزرگ نمی‌نماید،
و چرخه‌ی بزرگ و کوچک را می‌شناسد.

آن‌که آسان پیمان بندد، زودا که پیمان شکند،
آن که ساده انگارد، درد دشواری کشد.

پس راه‌رو، دشواری‌هایِ کار را در آغاز می‌بیند،
و آن‌گاه کارهایش آسان می‌گردد.

Notebook Sixty-Three
To live Being with Non-Being,
to enact action through non-action,
and to savor the tasteless.
To see the small within the great,
the great within the small,
the few within the many,
and to behold resentment through the mirror of kindness.
To regard the easy as difficult,
and to see the difficult as born of the easy.
To regard hardship as ease,
and to see ease as born of hardship.
Thus the Wise moves from smallness to greatness;
yet he never makes himself appear great,
and he knows the cycle of great and small.
He who binds covenants lightly
will soon break his covenant;
he who takes matters as simple
shall suffer the pain of difficulty.
Therefore the Wayfarer
beholds the difficulties of the work at the beginning,
and thereafter his works become easy.
