هست را با نیستی زیستن،
کردار را بی‌کنشی به پایان رساندن،
و بی‌رنگی را مزمزه کردن.

کوچک را در بزرگ دیدن،
بزرگ را در کوچک یافتن،
و کینه را با آیینه‌ی مهربانی نگریستن.

آسان‌ را در دشوار بیاب،
و دشوار را زاده‌ی آسان‌ بدان؛
سختی‌ را آسان‌ بشمار،
و آسان را زاده‌ی دشوار بدان.

فرزانه بزرگی را از کوچکی می‌یابد،
و هرگز خود را بزرگ نمی‌بیند؛
زیرا چرخه‌ی بزرگ و کوچک را می‌شناسد،
و بدین رَسَن به کارِ بزرگ دست می‌یابد.

آن‌که آسان پیمان بندد، زودا که پیمانش شکند؛
آن که ساده انگارد، دردِ دشواری کشد؛
و از این‌رو، فرزانه هرگز دچارِ دشواری نمی‌شود.

The Sixty-Third Notebook

To live Being with Non-Being,
to bring action to completion through non-action,
and to savor the colorless.

To see the small within the great,
to find the great within the small,
and to behold resentment through the mirror of kindness.

Find the easy within the difficult,
and know the difficult as born of the easy;
regard hardship as ease,
and know ease as born of hardship.

The sage finds greatness through smallness,
and never sees himself as great;
for he knows the cycle of the great and the small,
and by this rope, he accomplishes the great.

Whoever makes promises lightly
will soon break his word;
whoever regards things as simple
will suffer the pain of difficulty;
therefore, the sage never finds himself in difficulty.
