دلیرىِ بی‌پروا، مرگ مى‌آورد؛
و دلیرىِ با پرهیز، زندگى.

در این دو، گاه سود است و گاه زیان؛
رازِ آن را که داند؟
ازاین‌رو فرزانه در آن درنگ می‌نماید،
و با گوهرِ سرشتِ بنیادین:
بی‌ستیز پیروز می‌شود؛
بی‌گفتار پاسخ می‌گیرد؛
بی‌خواهش کام‌کار می‌شود.

تورِ آسمان فراخ است،
با روزنه‌های گشوده؛
اما راهِ گریز ندارد.

The Seventy-Third Notebook

Reckless courage brings death;
courage tempered by restraint brings life.

In these two, there is sometimes gain and sometimes loss;
who can know their secret?

Therefore, the sage pauses before it,
and with the essence of Fundamental Nature:

prevails without contention;
receives a response without words;
fulfills his purpose without desire.

The net of Heaven is vast,
with its openings wide;
yet nothing escapes it.
