در آشتی‌های بزرگ نیز کینه‌ای خرد پنهان می‌ماند،
ازین فرزانه، پیمان را پاس می‌دارد،
اما کینه را بر نمی‌انگیزد.

رونده‌ی راه، پیمان را ارج می‌نهد،
اما بدهکار را نمی‌فشارد،
و گم‌راه، از پیمان بهره‌ی خویش را می‌جوید.

سرشتِ راستین آرام است،
اما نفسِ بدکنش همچنان در تکاپو است.

راه بی‌پیرایه است،
و همواره یارِ نیکان.

Notebook Seventy-Nine

Even in great reconciliations, a subtle grievance remains concealed;
thus the sage upholds the covenant,
yet does not stir up resentment.

One who walks the Way honors the covenant,
yet does not press the debtor,
while the misguided seeks from the covenant his own gain.

The true nature is at peace,
yet the ill-acting self remains in restless agitation.

The Way is without adornment,
and ever stands with the good.
