آنچه را می‌گستری،
فرومی‌کاهی؛

آنچه را توان می‌بخشی،
ناتوان می‌سازی؛

آنچه را بر‌می‌‌افرازی،
فرو‌می‌افکنی؛

و آنچه را می‌بخشی،
بازمی‌ستانی.

این را روشناییِ نادیدنی نامند؛
ناتوان بر توانا چیره شود.

آرامشِ ماهی در ژرفایِ آب است؛
و آرامشِ انسان در ژرفایِ سرشتِ بنیادین.
فرمانروایِ شایسته،
سلاحِ خود را به رخِ مردمان نمی‌کشد.

What you spread forth,
you diminish;

what you empower,
you render weak;

what you raise up,
you cast down;

and what you give,
you take back.

This is called the unseen illumination;
the weak overcomes the strong.

The fish finds peace in the depths of the water;
and man finds peace in the depths of Fundamental Nature.

The worthy ruler
does not display his weapons before the people.
