در جهان، مهربانی بر نامهربانی چیره می‌شود،
آن‌گونه که آب، سنگ را می‌فرساید؛
و آن‌گونه که نیستی، در ژرفایِ هستی فرو‌می‌رود.

از این‌رو، بی‌کنشی را بر کنش‌گری برگزیدم,
و آموختنِ بی‌گفت را آموزگار ساختم.

در جهان، چیزی چون بی‌کنشی کارساز نیست؛
رسیدنِ بی‌رفتن را اندکی از مردمان درمی‌یابند؛
که راه، در دلِ آرام است، نه در گامِ شتابان.

The Forty-Third Notebook

In the world, kindness prevails over unkindness,
as water wears away stone;
and as Non-Being sinks into the depths of Being.

Therefore, I chose non-action over action
and made learning without words my teacher.

In the world, nothing is as effective as non-action;
few among the people understand arriving without going—
for the Way lies in the still heart,
not in the hurried step.
