آموختنِ بی‌«راه»،
انبانِ نفس را فربه‌تر می‌سازد؛
داناییِ بی‌ریشه،
خود گم‌راهی و بی‌راهه است.

دانش در پناهِ سرشتِ راستین،
تهی شدن از نفس است؛
و ره‌یافتن به بی‌کرداریِ راستین.

هر که در کارِ جهان نیاید،
آن را سامان دهد؛
و هر که در کارِ آن آید،
آن را نابسامان کند.

The Forty-Eighth Notebook

Learning without the Way
makes the vessel of the self ever more bloated;
rootless knowledge
is itself delusion and a false way.

Learning under the shelter of Fundamental Nature
is emptying oneself of the self;
and finding the way to true non-action.

Whoever does not interfere in the affairs of the world
brings order to it;
and whoever interferes in its affairs
throws it into disorder.
